Ash dieback is an issue which is predicted to kill around 80% of ash trees across the UK. Not only will this cost the nation billions, but it threatens to change the landscape and biodiversity of the country forever.
Ash dieback is a fungus which can affect trees of any age. It was introduced to the UK from Asia around 30 years ago, and while it doesn't cause any harm to its native ash trees, it can cause fatal damage to the European ash. The fungal infection can be spread from tree to tree in the wind, and while a single year of ash dieback might not kill a tree, year after year of returning infections likely will.
Ash dieback is currently most common in the South East of England, although we can see infections throughout the country. The picture looks grim for the European ash, but there is some hope: latest research suggests that some ash trees in the UK may be developing a tolerance to ash dieback, which could give our native ash population the chance to recover in time.
If you're wondering how you can help prevent the spread of ash dieback, remember these three simple rules:
"Ethan J Watkins Forest & Arb attended at short notice to reduce the canopy of a large eucalyptus within our garden. Ethan and his team arrived promptly at 8:00am, upon which they set about the tree and cleared debris as they progressed. The job was completed in good time and we are very satisfied with the results. I would definitely recommend Ethan and his team."
